The Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, supported by the UNESCO Chair on Food, Biodiversity, and Sustainability Studies, is pleased to extend an invitation to join Dr. Andrew Spring as he moderates a discussion between Gabriel Allahdua, Dr. Janet McLaughlin and Dr. Jenna Hennebry November 30th, 4:30pm – 6:00pm EST at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, 67 Erb St. W., Waterloo, Room 142, or virtually via Zoom.

Speakers will share their experiences with the current food system and the people who grow our food, and importantly, how the existing agricultural system impacts their health and wellbeing.

This event will feature:

Dr. Andrew Spring (Moderator) – Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, Director of the Laurier Centre for Sustainable Food Systems and Director of Research for the UNESCO Chair in Food, Biodiversity and Sustainability Studies

Gabriel Allahdua – Former migrant farmworker in the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP), activist, and author of Harvesting Freedom 

Dr. Janet McLaughlin – Professor in Community Health at Wilfrid Laurier University, co-founder of the Migrant Worker Health Project and the Migrant Worker Health Expert Working Group, co-author of published technical reports on migrant worker rights and health with UN Women and author of Nourishing Communities chapter.  

Dr. Jenna Hennebry – Professor in Communication Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, co-founder of the Migrant Worker Health Project and the Migrant Worker Health Expert Working Group, and co-author of published technical reports on migrant worker rights and health with UN Women and International Organization for Migration (IOM).
